This is a personal guide to Newquay and Cornwall giving details of various places of interest. I have visited Newquay several times since 1989 and feel as though it is a second home to me.

Below is a map of Newquay and it's main beaches.

Before 1439, there was a small village known as Towan Blystra - this expanded when the harbour of 'New Kaye' was built. The town became a centre for pilchard fishing and the china clay trade before the coming of the railway in the 1870s brought tourism to the area.

One of Newquay's appeals is based on the wonderful beaches and coastal views and walks. The beaches are extremely clean and are washed by the Atlantic Ocean. They are the best in the British Isles and the surf that is provided by the Atlantic allows World Championship surfing to be held in Fistral Bay.
